Although the price is high for a one-channel service, NESN 360 is the most cost-effective option for watching the Red Sox, but nationally televised games and most playoff games will be missing. Our top pick for live-streaming Red Sox games is DIRECTV STREAM “Choice” because the platform carries NESN and NBC Sports Boston, as well as TBS for AL playoffs coverage.

DIRECTV STREAM – Choice

Important Channels

Most MLB games are broadcast regionally on dedicated channels known as regional sports networks (RSNs). In Boston, the local RSNs are NBC Sports Boston and the New England Sports Network (“NESN”). NBC Sports Boston carries Celtics and Bruins games, but not the Red Sox. For Red Sox action, access to NESN is required.

I have also added in ESPN, FOX, FS1, and TBS, all channels that carry nationally televised MLB games, including the playoffs and World Series. In addition, MLB fans should be aware that Apple TV+ and Peacock are now carrying exclusive MLB games during the regular season.

NESN viewing territory

These markets will get access to the NESN broadcasts: Massachusetts; Northern Connecticut; Vermont; Maine; New Hampshire; Rhode Island. Outside the northeast, we recommend adding MLB.TV to an ESPN+ or Fubo account rather than signing up through Amazon Prime which has a very limited sports lineup that doesn’t carry nationally televised MLB games or playoff games.

From Boston

Fubo carries the channels you need to watch the Red Sox, as well as the Bruins and Celtics, on NBC Sports Boston. Fubo charges an RSN fee for access to NESN and NBC Sports Boston. The downside with Fubo for Red Sox games is the lack of TBS for watching the AL playoffs.

fuboTV also carries WBZ-TV, Boston CBS, for Patriots action.

DIRECTV STREAM “Choice” covers all the bases for Red Sox games, albeit at a hefty price. The platform carries TBS so Red Sox fans can watch Tuesday Night Baseball and the NL playoffs. NBC Sports Boston is also available, but sports fans have to pay for the Choice package to get RSN coverage.

CBS Boston, WBZ-TV, is also available on DIRECTV STREAM for New England Patriots fans.

Yes, if you live in the northeast, you can watch most Red Sox on NESN 360 during the regular season, as well as some ACC on RSN football games, including BC games, when college football kicks off.

However, NESN 360 is pricey and there will be holes in coverage when the Red Sox appear on national TV or in a streaming exclusive game.

National TV

The landscape for streaming nationally televised MLB games is becoming more fragmented as new streaming services have begun buying the exclusive rights to small bundles of games. To learn how to stream all national TV MLB games, including Red Sox games both regular season and playoffs, as well as Yankees rivalry games, view our free watch guide.

Hulu + Live TV is another streaming service that carries the national TV MLB channels (except for Apple TV+ and Peacock) as well as NBC Sports Boston. You can also watch CBS Boston on Hulu + Live TV. Their ESPN+ bundle will also get you one out-of-market game every day during the regular season if you want to keep an eye on the competition in the pennant race.

YouTube TV carries NBC Sports Boston, plus ESPN, TBS, FS1, and CBS Boston. YouTube TV is a good choice for Sox fans who want to watch nationally televised games and the playoffs and World Series.

Out-of-market

Let’s say you moved from Boston to the west coast but want to follow the Red Sox. NBC Sports Boston isn’t an option because you’re out-of-market, so you can watch the Sox on MLB.TV, pro baseball’s out-of-market premium product.

Red Sox Player to Watch in 2024

Masataka Yoshida, the Red Sox left fielder, has been on a Home Run bonanza recently, setting records in the process. According to NESN:

Yoshida is the first Japanese-born player with at least two total bases in seven straight games since Ichiro Suzuki did it in May 2010, according to ESPN Stats and Information. That stretch for Ichiro was the longest such streak of his career.

Can I watch the Red Sox in a free trial?

Both Fubo and DIRECTV STREAM carry NESN and offer free trials to new subscribers. Red Sox fans in the northeast could watch a handful of games for free on either platform before having to pay the monthly subscription fee. When the Red Sox appear on FOX, fans can tune in for free with just an over the air antenna.

Can I watch the Red Sox on YouTube TV?

Although YouTube TV doesn’t currently offer NESN, Red Sox fans can watch nationally televised games with the platform, including on ESPN, TBS, FOX, and FS1. YouTube TV will carry many of the marquee Red Sox games, but not the NESN broadcasts.
