The NBA’s current TV contract with ESPN and TNT runs through 2025 and sets up some simple rules for watching your favorite team. Nationally televised NBA games will be broadcast on one of three channels: ABC, ESPN, and TNT. The rest of the NBA’s TV inventory is broadcast to local fans on regional sports networks (“RSNs”).
If you live in the same TV market as your favorite team, DIRECTV STREAM, as the live TV streaming service that carries the RSN’s will often be your best option to watch the majority of your team’s season. DIRECTV STREAM also carries ABC, ESPN, TNT, and NBA TV for a slate of nationally televised NBA games. However, read on, because in some NBA markets, there are better options than DIRECTV STREAM.
If you live out-of-market, and want to watch the most regular season games, NBA League Pass is the best choice. Note: NBA League Pass games are blacked out for in-market NBA fans. For a zip code based guide to NBA blackouts, check out this page maintained by the NBA.
