The Minnesota Wild finished second in the Western Conference, and NHL fans in Minneapolis believe this could be the team’s breakout year. If you can’t make it to the Xcel Energy Center to see a game in person, you can live stream Wild games on most major streaming devices, including Roku, iPhone, laptops, Samsung Smart TVs, and Amazon Fire TV.

Wild fans in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas can watch most regular season games on Bally Sports North with both Bally Sports Plus and DIRECTV STREAM “Choice.” However, if you want to watch every Wild game, including nationally televised games and the Stanley Cup Playoffs, DIRECTV STREAM “Choice” is the clear winner. DIRECTV STREAM supports more devices than Bally Sports Plus and features an extensive channel lineup that includes ABC, ESPN, TNT, and KMSP-TV FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul for watching Vikings games. Out-of-market Wild fans can watch most games on ESPN+.

Important channels

For NHL fans who live in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas, the most important channel for watching Wild regular season games is Bally Sports North. When the Wild appear in nationally televised games, or in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the NHL’s TV contracts with Disney and Turner Media dictate that the games air on ABC, ESPN, or TNT. The exception to this rule is the first round of the playoffs. Some of these games will air on Bally Sports North.

In order to watch the Minnesota Wild on DIRECTV STREAM, an upgrade to the “Choice” package is required.

With DIRECTV STREAM “Choice,” Wild fans get access to every channel the Wild can appear on this season, except for streaming exclusive games on ESPN+.

DIRECTV STREAM “Choice” is also a good streaming solution for Minneapolis sports fans. The platform provides full season coverage of the Twins, Wild, Timberwolves, Vikings, and Golden Gopher football and basketball.

Minnesota Wild fans can watch in-market regular season, and first round playoff, games on Bally Sports Plus.

Nationally televised games on ABC, ESPN, and TNT, as well as streaming exclusive ESPN+ games are not available on Bally Sports Plus for Wild fans.

You cannot watch the Wild out-of-market on Bally Sports Plus.

In our view, the wisdom of signing up for Bally Sports Plus is tied to the price of DIRECTV STREAM “Choice.” Because Bally Sports Plus is a one channel streaming service, most sports fans will want to add another streaming platform to their Bally Sports Plus subscription. When the price of DIRECTV STREAM “Choice” remains below $70 per month, it makes the most sense to sign up for DTV STREAM directly rather than stacking two apps that, in the aggregate, cost more than DTV “Choice.”

As I mentioned above, the Wild’s in-market viewing territory is Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and the Dakotas. Outside of these areas, Wild fans can watch most of the team’s regular season games, as well as 75 exclusive NHL streaming only broadcasts, on the ESPN Plus platform.

Out-of-market NHL fans who tune in to games on ESPN+ can choose between the home and away commentary which is a nice feature added by ESPN Plus to make hockey fans who have moved away from their favorite teams feel more at home.

FAQ

Can I watch the Wild on Hulu?

Hulu + Live TV does not carry Bally Sports North, so the platform is not a good solution for watching the Wild if you live in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, or the Dakotas. However, if you live out-of-market, Hulu + Live TV will carry every single Wild game with the ESPN+ bundle and extensive sports channel lineup that includes ABC, ESPN, and TNT.

Can I watch the Wild on YouTube TV?

You can’t watch most Wild games on YouTube TV as the platform doesn’t carry Bally Sports North or ESPN+. The only Wild games you can watch on YouTube TV are nationally televised games, and Stanley Cup Playoffs games, with the coverage increasing after the first round due to some of the round one games airing on Bally Sports North.

Can I watch the Wild on FOX Sports North?

As part of 21st Century Fox’s sale of its portfolio of regional sports networks in 2019, the old FOX Sports North is now Bally Sports North. The programming on Bally Sports North is the same as when the channel was called FOX Sports North, but the branding changed as part of the acquisition by Sinclair Broadcasting.
