With two former best friends, and training partners, squaring off in the Octagon’s main event, UFC 272, even at the new increased rates for PPV action, is a tempting event to watch. I will definitely be buying the fight.
The Main Card for UFC 272 starts March 6, 2022 at 10 eastern time (7 PDT).
What is at stake in UFC 272?
Main event: Colby Covington (#1 Welterweight contender) vs. Jorge Masvidal (#6)
Colby Covington faces Jorge Masvidal, potentially for the right to face Welterweight champ Kamaru Usman again. Both Covington and Masvidal have been defeated twice by Usman, who many consider to be the greatest pound for pound UFC fighter of all time. Of the two fighters, Covington gave Usman two very competitive fights that both went a full five rounds. Although I had Usman winning the fight, you could argue that Covington even sneaked out a decision on some cards in his last bout with the Nigerian born champion.
By contrast, Masvidal, the holder of the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history with a knee to Ben Askren’s face, lost by a brutal KO in his last fight with Usman. Masvidal, now with 50 UFC fights under his belt, will be out to prove that he still has the ability to win a big fight, while Covington appears to be in his prime. I am nervous for Masvidal in this fight.
Prediction: Covington by TKO in round #3 – ground and pound.

What other fights are of interest?
I am curious to watch Kevin Hollands debut at Welterweight, a division that seems like more of a natural fit than middleweight for a fighter of his frame.
