The # 7 seed Minnesota Timberwolves square off against the #2 seeded Memphis Grizzlies in a round 1 Western Conference NBA playoff matchup that has some hoops fans on upset alert.

NBA Twitter threw some shade at the Timberwolves for storming the court after a play-in game win against the L.A. Clippers, but as a Detroit Lions fan, I understood the celebration. Minnesota’s NBA franchise has only made the playoffs once since 2005, so some jubilation, especially in a league where players are sometimes accused of apathetic play, was welcome.

The fun may just be beginning for the Timberwolves. They split the season series with the Grizzlies, with the home team winning each of their four regular season matchups, and some analysts believe they have a shot at taking the series, which begins Saturday, April 16 at 3:30 EST. In this viewing guide, we will walk you through the best options for live streaming each Timberwolves vs. Grizzlies game on mobile, Roku, Samsung, Amazon Fire TV, and most other streaming devices. The NBA regular season, with all of its competing regional sports networks, can be confusing to watch. Luckily, the NBA Playoffs are much more straightforward.

All of the NBA playoffs can be watched on just three channels: ABC, ESPN, and TNT. In the table below, we list the live TV streaming providers that carry each channel, plus whether they are offering a free trial for the playoffs.

Sling TV Orange is our top pick for streaming the Timberwolves vs. Grizzlies series

While there are several good options for live streaming the NBA playoffs, we like Sling Orange as an excellent budget pick. As the Editor at Streaming Stadium, and a sports streaming expert, my biggest concern for this industry is that it will become too expensive for the average fan.

For $35 per month, plus $10 off the first month of service, Sling TV Orange is the only game in town for budget streaming on a platform that carries a wide array of channels.

With Sling Orange, fans get ESPN and TNT, plus ESPN 3. ABC isn’t offered, but there is a workaround for watching the NBA playoffs on ABC with a Sling TV account.

You can use your Sling TV login credentials to access the ESPN 3 simulcast of ABC’s NBA playoff coverage. This extra step isn’t convenient, but it saves money over other live TV streaming services.

To watch ABC’s NBA coverage, go to the ESPN app, select the watch icon, and follow prompts to login with your TV provider. Use your Sling credentials and boom, you have access to ABC’s NBA coverage.

DirecTV Stream – runner up

I know some of you will have sticker shock with the price tag here, but hear me out. If your concern is only watching the NBA Finals, then Sling Orange is the choice.

However, if you want to watch next season’s regular season action for either the Grizzlies or Timberwolves, plus MLB teams like the Twins and Braves, then DirecTV Stream “Choice” is the best option.

DirecTV Stream “Choice” is the only live TV streaming provider that carries Bally Sports North and Bally Sports Southeast, the regional sports networks that carry the Timberwolves and Grizzlies regular season games. Choosing this package will have you set up for next season, and you will also be able to stream most NFL games come fall, including Titans and Vikings games.
