The opening night of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball features an American League East showdown between two of baseball’s most iconic franchises, the New York Yankees vs. the Boston Red Sox.

New for this season, former Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez, “A-Rod,” is no longer in the Sunday Night Baseball TV booth. Instead, ESPN brought in Karl Ravech on play-by-play and Eduardo Perez and David Cone, another former Yankee and YES Network employee, as analysts.

Since most live TV streaming providers carry ESPN, there are several options for watching the game. In this post, I will break down the best options, the latest free trials, and help you choose a streaming service that will give you the greatest access to your favorite team all season long.

Which live TV streaming providers broadcast Sunday Night Baseball?

As the most popular cable channel by far, it comes as no surprise that most streaming services feature ESPN and ESPN2. I threw ESPN2 in the table as well because ESPN2 will be the new home of a “Manning” style alternative Sunday Night Baseball broadcast hosted by A-Rod and Michael Kay, a YES Network analyst.

The best option for Yankees fans

It’s one thing to sign up for a streaming service to watch one game, but ideally, the service has value for the entire season. I like DirecTV Stream for Yankees fans because, in addition to offering ESPN and ESPN2, the platform is the only provider that carries the YES Network, which means in-market fans can follow the Bronx Bombers all season long.

DirecTV Stream also carries the MSG channel for Knicks fans. That, and during the NFL season, both the Jets and the Giants will be on local CBS and FOX affiliates.

The best option for Red Sox fans

Red Sox fans have more options for following their team all season long than do Yankees fans since NBC Sports Boston is available on more platforms. We are going with fuboTV as our top pick here, because unlike DirecTV Stream, fuboTV offers NBC Sports Boston in its base package. fuboTV doesn’t currently offer Turner sports channels like TBS and TNT, but this is less of an issue for AL fans because the AL playoffs are on FS1.

fuboTV was also our top pick for watching the New England Patriots.

Will Sunday Night Baseball cause blackouts?

Yes, as an exclusive broadcast, ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball lineup will be blacked out on NBC Sports Boston and the YES Network.
